Dr Chilima Was Speaking During The Official Opening Of The Malawi Institute Of Procurement And Supply Chain (Mips) Annual General Conference In Mangochi.
The Vice President Said A Well Performing Public Procurement System Increases Citizens’ Confidence In Government And Private Sector Competitiveness Especially By Leveling The Playing Field For Small And Medium Sized Businesses.
“This Is The Reason Why Government Is Implementing Policy Measures To Economically Empower Smes Through Public Procurement,” He Said.
Minister Of Trade, Sosten Gwengwe Said Government Has Already Taken Steps Where All Ministries, Departments And Agencies (Mdas) Have Been Directed To Prioritise Procurements From Local Companies.
“To Make This A Reality, Very Soon We Will Embark On Fact Finding Mission To See If Indeed These Mda’s Are Adhearing To This Order,” Said Gwengwe.
President Of Mips, Alinafe Banda Said Procurement Professionals Are Encouraged To Be Familiar With The Country’s Procurement Legislations So As To Push For Government Agenda On Procurement Of Goods And Services.
The Conference Is Being Held Under The Theme: “Strategic Procurement And Supply Chain Management; Tool For Malawi’s Attainment Of National Economic Development And Growth.”
